Finally, an Electrician Worth Talking About
Great work, clean home, no surprises. That's what fascinating our customers looks like.

Residential Electrical Services in Portland, OR

Portland homes have character. They also have knob-and-tube wiring, undersized panels, and electrical systems that were never designed for the way people actually live today. Safety Home Services works with Portland homeowners who are done ignoring the warning signs and ready to get it handled right the first time.

Every visit starts with a 10-point safety assessment — not just a look at what you called about, but everything connected to it. That means fewer surprises, fewer callbacks, and a home that’s genuinely safer when we leave.

Portland Moves Fast. Your Electrical System Needs to Keep Up.

Craftsman bungalows, Victorian foursquares, mid-century ranches — Portland’s neighborhoods have a look that newer cities can’t replicate. But behind the original woodwork and the restored hardwoods, a lot of these homes are running on electrical systems that predate the microwave. More than half of Portland’s housing stock was built before 1960, and that wiring was never meant to power a home office, two EVs, and a smart home setup simultaneously.

The good news is Portland homeowners aren’t waiting around. EV chargers, panel upgrades, and surge protection are among our most-requested services in this market, and the demand makes sense. This city invests in its homes, and we’re here to make sure the electrical system keeps pace.

The electrician showed up on time and assessed the electrical issues on my girlfriends electrical panel at her house. The quote was free. He found there was a breaker that was incorrect for the panel and the main power breaker was somewhat corroded. He quoted us and then waited for the power company to shut off power and then fixed the issue promptly by installing a new correct breaker and then cleaning the panel. This was a big safety issue and the electrician waited patiently until our issue was resolved. The panel was sparking/arcing and created a fire hazard. As soon as the work was completed by Trevor the power in the home was working perfectly. We are grateful for the friendly and affordable service and especially how they were concerned with our safety and waited for the power company to turn off power and then fix our issue instead of rescheduling or going to a different job. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars!

I recently moved into my new home and had to have an EV charging plug installed and thought, well, might as well have extra outlets installed and ceiling fans too. The folks at Safety Home Services were so kind and responsive. Trevor at Safety home was able to give me an solution and start working on what needed to be done immediately. The solution and quote for everything that I needed to have done was about on par with what other places were quoting me. A bonus was the new monthly subscription at Safety Home that discounts 15% of any work done. Trevor was super professional and took time to explain all the ins and outs and made me feel good about the work that was being done. Being young and a first time homeowner can make it hard to trust whether people are being honest or trying to screw you over with work that has to be done on a home, but I never felt that way with Trevor and Victoria helping me out. They were super responsive and were always on time or communicative. I strongly recommend them for any first time homebuyers.

Safety provided excellent service! The tech (Kevin?) was a bit early, which was fine by me. I needed a new range hood/vent installed that I had already purchased on my own. He started by checking to see if the one I had was really dead or if there was a problem that could be remedied. He did discover that the fan wasn’t getting enough power to run and traced where the problem was coming from. He fixed it, but I wanted the new one installed anyway due to a color change. He got right to work getting the old one out and the new one in. He even made a trip to Home Depot to provide me with the correct light bulbs required, which I viewed as above and beyond. He was great to work with and I would recommend Safety to anyone in need of an electrician!

The Questions We Hear Most From Portland Homeowners

Fuse boxes aren’t illegal, but they’re a sign your electrical system is well past its prime and likely undersized for modern demand. Most Portland lenders and insurance providers also flag them, so an upgrade is worth discussing sooner rather than later.

Yes, we’re experienced working in Portland’s historic neighborhoods and understand the care these homes require. We work cleanly and carefully to make sure any updates meet current code without compromising the character of the home.

Knob-and-tube wiring isn’t automatically a fire hazard, but it becomes one when it’s been modified, covered with insulation, or overloaded by modern electrical demand. It’s one of the first things we assess in older Portland homes.

In most cases, yes, but older homes sometimes need a panel upgrade before a Level 2 charger can be safely installed. We assess your panel as part of the process and walk you through exactly what’s needed before any work begins.

A breaker that trips repeatedly is usually telling you that a circuit is overloaded, there’s a wiring issue, or the breaker itself has failed. Don’t ignore it or keep resetting it; that’s exactly the kind of problem our 10-point safety assessment is designed to diagnose.
