Power outages in Keizer happen more often than most homeowners expect, and they rarely come with much warning. How a Whole-Home Generator Works

Most homeowners are surprised by how seamless the experience actually is. The generator sits outside your home, monitors the grid continuously, and handles everything automatically without any input from you.

  • Runs on natural gas or propane connected to your existing supply line
  • Powers your entire home or selected critical circuits depending on the size
  • Integrates directly with your electrical panel through a dedicated transfer switch
  • Runs weekly self-tests to confirm it’s ready when you need it
  • Shuts off automatically when grid power is restored
  • Available in a range of sizes to match your home’s specific power needs

The Questions We Hear Most About Generator Service

Most manufacturers recommend annual maintenance, though generators that run frequently or power critical loads may benefit from service every six months. Regular maintenance keeps the oil clean, the filters clear, the battery charged, and the electrical connections tight. Skipping it doesn’t always cause immediate problems — but it does mean you’re more likely to find out something’s wrong when the power goes out.

A portable generator requires manual setup, produces exhaust that can’t be used indoors, and needs to be refueled regularly during an outage. A standby generator is permanently installed outside your home, connects to your existing natural gas or propane supply, and activates automatically without any input from you. For most Keizer homeowners who want reliable, hands-free backup power, a standby generator is the right choice.

A standard visit covers the key components that affect reliability: oil and filter changes, spark plug inspection, battery testing, air filter cleaning or replacement, and a visual inspection of the transfer switch and wiring. We finish with a test run to confirm everything is operating the way it should, and we walk you through anything we find so you know exactly where your system stands.

Some signs are obvious: the generator doesn’t start, runs roughly, or shuts off unexpectedly during a self-test. Others are subtler — unusual sounds, visible corrosion, or warning lights on the control panel. If your generator hasn’t been serviced in a few years, it’s worth scheduling a maintenance visit before storm season rather than waiting for a failure during an outage.

Financing is available through Wisetack for qualifying jobs between $500 and $25,000. The Details That Keep a Generator Running

A whole-home generator is a permanent part of your home’s electrical system, and what happens between outages matters just as much as what happens during one. Filters get clogged, connections corrode, transfer switches wear, and oil breaks down. The signs aren’t always visible until the generator is actually asked to run.

Safety Home Services has extensive experience working on whole-home generators across Keizer and the greater Salem area. Our licensed electricians know these systems, know this community, and know what a thorough maintenance visit or a solid repair looks like. When the next outage hits, our team will make sure your system is ready for it.

Keizer Homeowners Don't Just Take Our Word for It

The electrician showed up on time and assessed the electrical issues on my girlfriends electrical panel at her house. The quote was free. He found there was a breaker that was incorrect for the panel and the main power breaker was somewhat corroded. He quoted us and then waited for the power company to shut off power and then fixed the issue promptly by installing a new correct breaker and then cleaning the panel. This was a big safety issue and the electrician waited patiently until our issue was resolved. The panel was sparking/arcing and created a fire hazard. As soon as the work was completed by Trevor the power in the home was working perfectly. We are grateful for the friendly and affordable service and especially how they were concerned with our safety and waited for the power company to turn off power and then fix our issue instead of rescheduling or going to a different job. Absolutely deserving of 5 stars!

I recently moved into my new home and had to have an EV charging plug installed and thought, well, might as well have extra outlets installed and ceiling fans too. The folks at Safety Home Services were so kind and responsive. Trevor at Safety home was able to give me an solution and start working on what needed to be done immediately. The solution and quote for everything that I needed to have done was about on par with what other places were quoting me. A bonus was the new monthly subscription at Safety Home that discounts 15% of any work done. Trevor was super professional and took time to explain all the ins and outs and made me feel good about the work that was being done. Being young and a first time homeowner can make it hard to trust whether people are being honest or trying to screw you over with work that has to be done on a home, but I never felt that way with Trevor and Victoria helping me out. They were super responsive and were always on time or communicative. I strongly recommend them for any first time homebuyers.

Safety provided excellent service! The tech (Kevin?) was a bit early, which was fine by me. I needed a new range hood/vent installed that I had already purchased on my own. He started by checking to see if the one I had was really dead or if there was a problem that could be remedied. He did discover that the fan wasn’t getting enough power to run and traced where the problem was coming from. He fixed it, but I wanted the new one installed anyway due to a color change. He got right to work getting the old one out and the new one in. He even made a trip to Home Depot to provide me with the correct light bulbs required, which I viewed as above and beyond. He was great to work with and I would recommend Safety to anyone in need of an electrician!
